CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE GETS ELECTED INTO THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF ARTS AND LETTERS
She never ceases to make Nigeria
proud! Our very own award-winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has
been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Letters as a foreign
honorary member.
Following the footsteps of Wole
Soyinka, who was the first to be inducted in 1986, Chimamanda who would be the
second Nigerian to be inducted will do so alongside two other foreign honorees,
Kaija
saariaho; Composer of Finland and Zadie smith; Writer of England at the award ceremony and annual
induction in May.
In a press
release posted on its website, the Academy revealed that at the event, Calvin
Trillin, secretary, will induct fourteen members into the 250-person
organization and President Yehudi Wyner will induct three foreign honorary
members of which Chimamanda is one of the three. Joyce Carol Oates will deliver the centennial
Blashfield Foundation Address and an exhibition of art, architecture, books,
and manuscripts by new members and recipients of awards will be on view in the
galleries from May 18 to June 11.
