KAMARA
Rob watched Kamara’s silky, brown hair
dance to the sound of the evening breeze. At that point, it all seemed
irrelevant that he was running late for a meeting. He couldn’t remember
why he ever considered calling to reschedule. The time he had spent
waiting for his fiancée Julie and her friend Kamara was all worth it.
She was trouble and he knew it. He also knew she was a trouble he didn't
mind getting into. He lost himself to the disarming way she smiled with
her brown and bright eyes, pulling him in, holding him very close to
herself; the sun, and slowly melting his whole existence into a sweet
catastrophe. He should be looking at his fiancée. He wanted to, he had
wished he could see Julie the way he saw Kamara, but he couldn’t help
it. He only hoped to God that she had not noticed the uncontrollable
surge of emotion that Kamara Ignited in him with her presence, like a
vampire seeing fresh blood for the first time, like a dog rushing to a
stack of bones. He also hoped Kamara had not noticed how he had
perfected the solemn art of staring at her or rather- studying her when
she wasn’t looking. Once he suspected she had caught his leering eyes.
He wanted to tell her that he wasn’t a weirdo. That she deserved to be
stared at, and not because she looked like a living angel, not because
the world would not pass on a chance to mount her statue on the streets
of Port Harcourt for the mere sake of admiring her; but because she came
with her a kind of light and fresh air he had never felt before. She
was a breath of fresh air to Rob and for some reason, he seemed to
believe every word that came out from her mouth. He trusted her. He was
thorn between following his heart by giving it all up for the unknown,
breaking hearts, while making a few enemies for himself in the process
and staying still, forever wondering 'what could have been' and most
importantly not completely happy.
"I’m so sorry for taking so much time B, Kamara and I had to stop for some ice cream"
Jules said reaching to hug him.
''It's okay" Rob said,hugging her.
Except, it was not, it was definitely not okay. She was not the one he wanted in his arms.
Hmm. Like the name Kamara. Thinking of using it for a character in one of my stories. Nice one!
