UNITED WE STAND
There is a reason Nigeria is the way it is 56 years after independence. There is a reason things are getting worse than they were. There is a reason we are being counted as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. We say we want to be better but we do nothing to get there. We claim we are the Giant of Africa, yet at this moment, the economy of most African countries are better than ours, there is no functional enforcement of the rule of law, in fact, we can only boast of having a written constitution and not a practical one. Is it then right to say that we are not doing enough? That we are overlooking the necessary issues while we stay focused on the irrelevant ones? That we elect our leaders based on the tribe we like most rather than the best candidate for the job. Assuming we still hold that right. Assuming the elections are free and fair. Have we allowed this ethnic divide over cloud our judgement so much that we've lost sight of what actually matters? Is Nigeria stronger together or apart? United we stand, Divided we fall they say! So, why are we constantly promoting division? Why are we always looking for new ways to fight each other? If the fight is not tribalistic, it is religious, if it's not religious, then it's gender and if we can't find any, we create one. Why are our politicians more interested in fighting for a political party rather than fighting for the interests of Nigerians? They become so interested in protecting their various positions in the government that they forget to actually lead. If only we can put aside our ethnic bias, gender and political differences, selfish interests and think of how best to make Nigeria better. To think of ways to better our economy. There can't be any form of progress in a failing system, there can't be any development in a country that is more interested in fighting itself. There is no Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba Republic of Nigeria, there is no APC or PDP Republic of Nigeria, There is only a FEDERAL REPUBLIC of NIGERIA.
